How Being In Ketosis Can Help You Pass A Urine Drug Test Quicker
Did you know that being in ketosis can help you pass a drug test quicker?
It’s not an overnight solution – there’s no such thing, but being in ketosis can help you detoxify THC much quicker than doing a conventional fast or detox (without the help of pills and shakes).
Keto is one of the easiest diets to follow out there, with proven health benefits aside from weight loss. It was originally designed for the treatment of seizures, but today is being used to treat a wide range of illnesses including diabetes, cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome, and much more.
What is the ketogenic diet?
In a nutshell, the ketogenic diet is a very high-fat diet, and one that is extremely low in carbs (less than 20 grams of carbs a day). When done correctly, and by eating high amounts of fat, moderate protein, and zero sugar and carbs, the body should enter into a state of ketosis. I won’t go into much detail about the diet here, but rather focus on how the diet can help you detoxify THC quicker.
Ketosis is a metabolic state wherein the body stops using sugar (glycogen stores) for energy and instead turns to fat for fuel. When you consume carbohydrates, the body goes into a state of glycolysis which means that sugars and carbs are converted into glycogen, a form of energy. But carb consumption also triggers insulin, the hormone that stores fat in the body.
However, being in a state of ketosis means that insulin levels are kept low. Your body no longer stores fat because it uses it for energy.
How do you know when you are in ketosis?
Getting into a keto-adaptive or ketogenic state, when your body is in ketosis, takes a different amount of time for everyone. Some people can get into ketosis within 5 days, while others will take up to 2 weeks.
Knowing when you are in ketosis is crucial for helping you effectively use this diet to pass a weed drug test. Generally speaking, you have successfully reached a ketogenic state when your body is already using fat for energy.
How does keto burn THC?
THC is stored in fat. Whenever you smoke anything that contains THC, it’s stored in your fat cells until it’s burned off. That’s why sweating, exercise, and using the sauna are usually recommended when you’re trying to detox THC (but as you’ll read later on, it might actually have the opposite effect).
Now when you’re in a state of ketosis, the body doesn’t experience insulin spikes, and THC is not absorbed into the fat. When you are in ketosis, the body burns off its own fat for energy – including the THC stored in it.
Things To Keep In Mind
To increase the effectiveness of the keto diet for detoxifying THC, keep these things in mind:
- Don’t exercise: During the period where you’re trying to flush out THC from your system through the keto diet, avoid exercise. Studies show that exercise can actually increase THC levels in the blood by as much as 15% for as long as 2 hours after exercise. This increase can be high enough to result in a positive blood test long after you’ve last smoked or ingested.
- Avoid stress: Exposure to physical or mental stress can kick you out of ketosis. This can also trigger a phenomenon known as “reintoxication” where stress can increase THC levels in the blood, long after you last ingested.
- Don’t eat TOO much fat: Eating too much fat will only result in the burning of the dietary fat you consume, not your own body fat – basically, it will not help your detoxification (or weight loss) goals. To keep track of your fat intake, watch your macros and use a tracker app.
Most importantly, keep in mind that while a keto diet can speed up the detoxification of THC, there are no guarantees. There are certain factors that can aaffect the timeline of the detoxification process, most especially your current body mass index because the leaner you are = the less fat you have = the quicker you’ll be able to flush out the THC in your fat cells.
